The Technology Modernization Fund (TMF) has recently made investments in NASA and the Department of Labor (DOL) to address security vulnerabilities and enhance their ability to deliver secure services to the American public. These investments aim to prevent future costs associated with cyber threats and improve the agencies’ capacity to provide excellent and equitable customer experiences. Clare Martorana, Federal CIO and TMF Board Chair, emphasized the importance of protecting high-priority systems and enabling federal agencies to fulfill their missions securely.
NASA will receive $5,872,492 from the TMF to accelerate cybersecurity and operational efficiency initiatives. With a workforce spread across various centers and facilities, NASA faces significant security threats due to the value of its data. The investment will support projects like automating network management, modernizing infrastructure, and collecting more telemetry data to align with federal cybersecurity mandates. This funding will allow NASA to prioritize critical upgrades and enhancements to its IT infrastructure.
The Department of Labor’s Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs (OWCP) is undergoing a significant modernization effort to replace the outdated Integrated Federal Employee Compensation System (iFECS). With $42 million allocated by the TMF, the initiative aims to streamline support for injured workers, reduce claim adjudication times, and enhance data security. This transition to a modern, cloud-based architecture will improve efficiency, customer interactions, and overall service delivery to federal workers filing compensation claims.
