Stock Up on This Fan Favorite Before Costco Changes It.

A dedicated Costco shopper of 18 years has expressed a fondness for the store’s giant bakery muffins. For approximately five years, the family has upheld a tradition known as “Muffin Saturdays,” where they enjoy breakfast together featuring Costco muffins, both for their taste and the financial savings compared to local bakeries.

However, it appears that these jumbo muffins may soon be unavailable. Costco is implementing changes to its muffin offerings in certain markets. Recently, when visiting a local Costco in New Jersey, the shopper inquired about these changes and was informed that the local store would soon experience the shift.

The shopper, realizing the potential end of their beloved jumbo muffins, considered stocking up and even contemplated purchasing an additional deep freezer for storage. However, after reconsideration and discussion with their spouse, they decided against it, preferring to remain open-minded about the replacements.

Costco plans to replace the six-packs of jumbo muffins with eight-packs of regular-sized muffins, introducing new flavors which currently include Triple Chocolate, Blueberries and Cream, Lemon Raspberry, and Butter Pecan. Concerns were raised about whether the new chocolate flavor would match the existing favorite and how these changes might impact the pumpkin streusel muffins, especially as fall favorites.

While some Costco shoppers favor the change due to potentially reduced food waste and personal preferences for smaller portions, others, like the shopper in question, find the change less appealing, given their pattern of usage and storage.

The primary consideration remains the pricing of these new muffins. Currently, a pack of 12 jumbo muffins costs $9.99, and it is anticipated that the price for the new eight packs will reflect their smaller size.

For certain customers, this alteration could provide financial benefits, reducing expenses and food waste. Using appropriate credit cards for Costco purchases could further augment these savings.

Costco maintains a customer satisfaction guarantee, allowing returns for refunds if the new muffins are unsatisfactory, provided at least half the product is returned.

In response, some customers plan to purchase and store the jumbo muffins while available and explore making their versions through copycat recipes. However, the decision is fraught with the belief that replicating Costco’s pricing in a homemade setting may prove challenging.
