Jeff Bezos Sells Seattle Mansion for $63 Million After Moving to Miami

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has completed the sale of his Seattle mansion, marking a record-breaking transaction for Washington state. Bezos and his fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, who relocated to Miami approximately 18 months ago, owned $237 million in property in Seattle. The sale of the mansion, conducted through Cayan Investments LLC, reached a historic $63 million, as first reported by the Puget Sound Business Journal.

According to Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Bezos, with a net worth exceeding $200 billion, had acquired the 9,420-square-foot property in 2019, around the time of his divorce from MacKenzie Scott, for $37.5 million. His recent sale yielded a profit exceeding $25 million.

Situated on 3.27 acres in the exclusive Hunts Point neighborhood in King County, Washington, the mansion offers proximity to Lake Washington and is about seven miles from Amazon’s headquarters in downtown Seattle. The area, known for its tech industry presence with companies like Microsoft, Apple, and Google nearby, has an average home price around $8 million, driven by Seattle’s emergence as a tech hub.

The property includes three bedrooms, four bathrooms, an elevator, a large walk-in closet, a secondary kitchen, a rooftop terrace, and a glass walkway connecting to a two-story guesthouse. It spans more than 300 feet along the Lake Washington waterfront.

Previously owned by the late art collector and luxury travel executive Barney A. Ebsworth, who was an early investor in Build-A-Bear, the home’s records reflect its rich history. Bezos and Sanchez transitioned from Seattle to Miami citing a desire to be closer to his parents. His Instagram post highlighted the significance of Seattle in his life, noting his deep connections and memories associated with the city. Bezos also mentioned his aerospace company, Blue Origin, progressively expanding operations to Florida’s Cape Canaveral. Sanchez recently participated in a Blue Origin spaceflight, along with personalities like Katy Perry and Gayle King.

Speculations also point to Bezos’s move potentially avoiding Washington’s 7% capital gains tax, a decision recently upheld by the Washington State Supreme Court, which could have been costly for Bezos. Florida’s favorable taxation for high-net-worth individuals makes it a strategic choice for Bezos, who, along with Sanchez, now resides in a three-mansion compound in Miami’s Indian Creek, known as the “Billionaire Bunker.” He acquired his latest mansion there in 2024 for $90 million, making his total property investment in Indian Creek approximately $237 million.

This exclusive neighborhood, home to celebrities like Tom Brady, Ivanka Trump, and Jared Kushner, is noted for being among the most affluent and secure communities globally, according to the Florida-based luxury real estate firm, the Light Group.
