JSW Steel USA, a subsidiary of JSW Steel, has announced plans to invest $110 million in modernizing its steel plate mill in Baytown, Texas. This investment will allow the company to produce high-quality steel plates specifically for niche markets in the infrastructure and renewable energy sectors. By focusing on ‘Made in America’ specialty steel products, JSW Steel USA aims to reduce US import reliance and contribute to the decarbonization of the energy spectrum in the country.
According to Parth Jindal, director of JSW Steel USA, these new upgrades at the plate mill align with the long-term ESG initiative of JSW USA and support the decarbonization efforts in the US. The steel products produced through this investment will meet ‘Buy America’ requirements and cater to sophisticated applications such as hydrocarbon pipelines, offshore wind towers, and high-density pressure vessels. Rob Simon, CEO of JSW Steel USA, emphasized the company’s commitment to supplying critical high-grade steel products for US offshore wind deployment, promoting a cleaner, greener future.
Through these investments, JSW USA aims to enhance its domestic manufacturing capabilities within the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors while expanding its ‘Made in USA’ product portfolio. By insourcing the production of American-made steel slabs from its Mingo Junction facility in Ohio, JSW USA continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable practices and supporting the growth of the green economy. These projects, expected to be completed by FY26, build upon the company’s previous investments in upgrading clean steel manufacturing processes, further solidifying its position in the market.
