United Airlines is set to launch a new seasonal route between San Francisco (SFO) and Belize City (BZE), providing Bay Area residents with easier access to Maya ruins and natural wonders like the Great Blue Hole. The new flight service will begin on December 21, operating a redeye flight from SFO to Belize every Saturday. Belize, known for its stunning coral reef and marine sinkhole, attracted 465,000 visitors last year, with two-thirds coming from the United States.
The new route will not only benefit Bay Area travelers but also open up San Francisco to Belizean travelers and businesspeople. The flight schedule is designed to sync with United’s transpacific flights from SFO, allowing convenient one-stop connections to Asian cities such as Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taipei. With flights operated by a Boeing 737 MAX 8, the service will offer a total of 191 seats, including 16 reclining business class seats, 74 premium economy seats, and 101 economy seats.
According to Belize’s Minister of Tourism, Anthony Mahler, the new route will enhance tourism arrivals from the San Francisco Bay area and strengthen ties between Belize and the United States. The seasonal flight service will operate between December 21 and January 4, then from March 8 through April 30, and again from the end of May to August 17, taking advantage of Belize’s dry season and catering to summer vacationers. Additionally, the route will complement existing connections between Belize and various U.S. cities through American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Delta, and JetBlue.
