United Airlines Holdings Inc. plans to reduce 35 daily round trips at Newark Liberty International Airport. This decision comes in response to recent Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) technology failures and a shortage of air traffic controllers, which disrupted flights over the course of a week.
According to a letter from United’s Chief Executive Officer, Scott Kirby, addressed to customers, the ongoing challenges at the FAA have intensified, leading to cancellations, delays, and stranded passengers.
Additionally, it was reported that more than 20% of air traffic controllers at Newark walked off the job. The FAA attributed the issues to runway construction and staffing shortages.
