Hamas leader near truce deal with Israel, nearing agreement.

On November 21, 2023, the chief of Hamas told Reuters that the Palestinian militant group was near a truce agreement with Israel. A Hamas official also said that negotiations focused on the duration of the ceasefire, the arrangements for delivering aid into Gaza, and the exchange of Israeli hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners. Mirjana Spoljaric, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), met with Ismail Haniyeh to advance humanitarian issues related to the conflict. Meanwhile, talks between Israel and Hamas may result in an agreement involving the exchange of hostages and a three-day ceasefire to allow emergency aid shipments to Gaza residents.

The Israeli siege on the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza resulted in at least 17 Palestinian deaths. The artillery rounds hit a hospital in Beit Lahia, funded by Indonesian organizations, and killed 12 people, including patients. Additionally, Israeli forces took extensive measures to minimize harm to non-combatants during their attack. Hamas’ assault on October 7 led to 1,200 deaths in Israel, prompting the Israeli government to invade Palestinian territory.

As the Israeli bombardment of Gaza persists, the ongoing truce negotiations continue to result in attacks on both sides. However, ICU staff and patients at Gaza’s largest hospital, Al Shifa, were evacuated to Egypt. Hamas reported launching a barrage of rockets towards Tel Aviv and that on its Telegram account, prompting the facility to cease operations and shelter displaced residents.
