On Monday, Apple announced enhancements for its AirPods Max headphones, introducing lossless audio and ultra-low latency audio capabilities when utilizing the included USB-C cable.
With this impending update, AirPods Max will be able to deliver 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio, ensuring the preservation of original recording quality. This lossless audio capability also extends to Personalized Spatial Audio, providing a more sonically accurate, uncompressed, and immersive auditory experience, according to the company.
Users will have access to over 100 million songs in lossless audio through Apple Music.
Regarding the ultra-low latency audio feature, Apple states that the AirPods Max will become more suitable for music production. By using the USB-C cable, AirPods Max users will be able to enable musicians to create and mix music incorporating Personalized Spatial Audio and head tracking. This feature allows artists to record and mix without compromising audio quality, as noted by Apple.
Additionally, gamers will benefit from the ultra-low latency audio by experiencing reduced lag time while using the AirPods Max.
These new audio features will be released in April as a free firmware update in conjunction with iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4 for AirPods Max with USB-C.
It is important to note that the new features will be available exclusively for the AirPods Max with USB-C and not for the Lightning version of the headphones.
