Amazon Chime, Amazon’s alternative to Zoom and Google Meet, will be permanently discontinued. The company announced on Wednesday that it will cease support for Chime, including its Business Calling features, by February 20, 2026.
As part of this process, Amazon stopped accepting new Chime account registrations as of February 19, 2025.
Until the termination date, current users will still have the capability to schedule and host meetings, manage users, and utilize the features available in the Amazon Chime administration console, according to a post from the company’s blog. The Amazon Chime SDK, on the other hand, will not be affected by this shutdown.
Customers are encouraged to delete their data and transition to another web meeting service ahead of the shutdown. Amazon suggests alternatives such as AWS Wickr, Zoom, or Salesforce’s Slack.
The news of this discontinuation was initially reported by Business Insider, which highlighted that Amazon plans to designate Zoom as its official meeting application moving forward.
Introduced in 2017 with a target audience of businesses, Chime saw minimal adoption outside of Amazon, which was a significant factor in the decision to discontinue the service, as mentioned by a company spokesperson.
An Amazon spokesperson informed TechCrunch via email that decisions to retire a service or feature are generally due to the introduction of improved solutions or suitable alternatives offered by partners. In the case of Chime, its limited usage outside Amazon and the availability of robust collaboration options from partners led to the decision to phase out the service.
