Anthropic’s upcoming funding round is reportedly expanding. According to The Wall Street Journal, Anthropic, the developer of the AI chatbot Claude, is in the process of finalizing a $3.5 billion fundraising round, which values the company at $61.5 billion. Initially, Anthropic aimed to raise $2 billion, but investors have now agreed to allocate a larger sum.
Lightspeed Venture Partners, General Catalyst, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Abu Dhabi-based investment firm MGX are reportedly in discussions to participate in this funding round. If the round reaches $3.5 billion, it would increase Anthropic’s total funds raised to approximately $18 billion.
This development coincides with Anthropic’s recent release of a new flagship AI model, Claude 3.7 Sonnet. Despite reaching an annualized revenue of about $1.2 billion, the company continues to operate at a loss. The funds from the upcoming round are intended to be used for developing more advanced AI technologies.
