According to a report from The Information, Apple is incurring annual losses exceeding $1 billion on its streaming service, Apple TV+. The report highlights that Apple TV+ stands out as the sole unprofitable venture within Apple’s portfolio.
Since its launch in 2019, the company has invested approximately $5 billion annually in content for Apple TV+, though this figure will decrease to $4.5 billion in 2024. The service is recognized for its original programming, including titles such as “Severance,” “Ted Lasso,” “The Morning Show,” “Silo,” and “Shrinking.”
Despite Apple TV+ productions securing over 2,500 award nominations and wins, the service remains behind Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video in terms of subscriber numbers.
While Apple does not officially release subscription figures, the report estimates that Apple TV+ has approximately 45 million subscribers. In contrast, Netflix leads the streaming market with a subscriber base of 301 million.
