Apple’s augmented reality glasses may have been put on hold, but it appears the company is developing another type of smart glasses. According to Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter at Bloomberg, via 9to5Mac, Apple continues its work on smart glasses. This follows a previous Bloomberg report that suggested Apple’s AR glasses project had been shelved. Gurman indicates that the new glasses are similar to Meta’s Ray-Ban collaboration, incorporating technology but not providing full augmented reality displays.
The smart glasses are expected to be powered by Apple Intelligence, with capabilities to analyze the environment and relay information to the user. However, the extent of these features remains unclear. Unlike Meta’s version, which focuses on influencer use and allows for photography and live streaming, Apple is cautious about enabling photography due to privacy concerns.
It may be several years before this project results in a marketable product, if it materializes at all, leaving the future of Apple’s smart glasses uncertain.
