Sleep Number has introduced its latest smart bed, the ClimateCool Smart Bed, designed to help users stay cool during the night. Priced starting at $5,499, this new product is an addition to the company’s existing lineup known for adjustable mattress firmness. According to a press release by Sleep Number, this mattress keeps the body at an ideal temperature through “scientifically backed” cooling programs, which may be especially beneficial for women experiencing menopause symptoms.
The ClimateCool is Sleep Number’s second smart bed that offers distinct temperature control on each side of the bed. The company previously released the Climate360 in 2020, a mattress that not only cools but also has the capability to warm, starting at $10,000 for a Queen size. The ClimateCool begins at a lower price point, $5,499, including the base. For those who prefer the adjustable base, it is available for an additional $1,500. Comparative alternatives, such as the EightSleep mattress cover that offers both heating and cooling functions and includes an adjustable base, start at $2,649, but require a separate mattress.
Both ClimateCool and Climate360 utilize the same cooling technology, supported by SmartTemp cooling programs. Developed with research from Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, these programs collaborate with ceramic gel layers and a breathable surface in the mattress to regulate body temperature throughout the night.
Sleep Number’s research highlighted the impact of temperature fluctuations on women’s sleep quality during menopause. A study involving over 10,550 Sleep Number bed users revealed that “90 percent of female respondents experiencing menopause or perimenopause suffer from night sweats.” The company asserts that its active cooling technology can improve these women’s sleep by sensing temperature changes and dynamically drawing excess heat away with its airflow system. Similar to its adjustable firmness feature, the cooling programs can be customized independently for each side of the bed.
Users have the option to design their personal cooling programs or select from pre-configured options tailored for various needs such as recovery, deep sleep, menopause, illness recovery, and relaxation. The two main cooling programs offered are ‘All Night Cooling,’ which maintains a cool temperature to ease hot flashes, and ‘Deep Sleep Cooling,’ aimed at minimizing sleep interruptions.
In addition to adjustable firmness, the ClimateCool includes built-in sleep tracking that monitors biosignals to provide detailed sleep reports, accessible through the Sleep Number app.
The Sleep Number ClimateCool Smart Bed is currently available for purchase on sleepnumber.com and at Sleep Number stores. Pricing starts at $5,499 for a Queen size with an integrated base and $6,999 for a Queen size with the FlexFit 2 adjustable base.
