Ukraine’s state-owned railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, announced on Monday that it experienced a significant cyberattack.
The cyberattack impacted online ticket sales, including those through the mobile app. However, the train operations are continuing as normal, according to the railway operator’s statement on its official Telegram channel.
Daryna Antoniuk, a journalist in Ukraine, reported the disruption for The Record from Kyiv’s central station. She noted that the capital’s main railway station was unusually crowded on Monday morning, with many individuals waiting in long lines to buy tickets for travel both within Ukraine and abroad.
In its announcement, Ukrzaliznytsia conveyed—via a machine translation—that the primary objective of the attackers was unsuccessful: train traffic remains stable, with trains operating on schedule and all operational traffic processes set up in a backup format.
The operator advised customers that if they are unable to purchase a ticket through the ticket office, they should proceed directly to the train as a last resort.
