The Defense Department recently held the George F. Linsteadt Awards ceremony to recognize science and technology professionals who have made significant contributions to the department’s technology transfer community. The ceremony highlighted the crucial role played by technology transfer professionals in maintaining the technological advantage of the country’s warfighters while supporting the American economy. The award honors individuals who have excelled in initiatives to transfer technology developed in defense labs to partners in the private and public sectors. This year’s recipient of the George F. Linsteadt Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer is Antisa Webb, the chief of the technology, knowledge and outreach division for the Office of Research and Technology Transfer at the Army Corps of Engineers’ Engineer Research and Development Center. Webb was praised for her efforts to develop a market-based innovation-to-impact strategy and for fostering an innovation culture that has led to economic growth among the center’s private sector partners.
During the recognition ceremony, Steven G. Wax, performing the duties of assistant secretary of defense for science and technology, emphasized the visionary and forward-thinking nature of the technology transfer professionals within the Department of Defense (DOD). He commended their efforts to pioneer technology transfer and find innovative ways to enhance the DOD’s ability to fulfill its warfighting mission. Webb, in her role as the chief of the technology, knowledge, and outreach division, demonstrated exceptional leadership in managing the Engineer Research and Development Center’s technology transfer program. Her market-based approach to managing the center’s portfolio and her commitment to outreach and deal-making have led to increased sales, job creation, and funding awards for the center’s private sector partners.
In accepting the award, Webb acknowledged the contributions of her colleagues in the success of the Engineer Research and Development Center’s innovation-to-impact strategy. She emphasized the importance of teamwork and credited the dedication and drive of her team for the strategy’s success. Alongside Webb’s recognition, several other professionals involved in the DOD’s Technology Transfer Program and Laboratory Enhancement Program Technology Transfer Working Groups were presented with certificates of appreciation. This further highlights the commitment and efforts of these individuals in driving technology transfer initiatives within the DOD.
