Google’s AI note-taking and research assistant, NotebookLM, has introduced the “Audio Overviews” feature in 76 additional languages, as announced by the company on Tuesday. Originally launched last year, Audio Overviews allow users to generate podcasts with AI virtual hosts based on documents shared with NotebookLM, such as course materials or legal documents.
This feature aims to provide users with an alternative method to understand the information contained in the documents uploaded to the app. The expansion enables more users to access Audio Overviews in their preferred languages.
Previously, Audio Overviews were generated in the preferred language of the user’s account. Google has now introduced an “Output Language” option, enabling users to select the language in which their Audio Overviews are produced.
Users can change the language at any time, facilitating the creation of multilingual content or study materials, according to Google.
In an example provided by Google, a teacher preparing a lesson on the Amazon rainforest can share resources in various languages, such as a Portuguese documentary, a Spanish research paper, and English study reports, with their students. The students can upload these materials and generate an Audio Overview of key insights in their preferred language.
Google communicated to TechCrunch that the newly supported languages include a wide range, such as Afrikaans, Arabic, Azerbaijani, and many others, encompassing languages from different regions and dialects.
