HelloFresh Becomes Rivian’s First Van Customer Beyond Amazon

HelloFresh, a meal-kit company, has incorporated 70 all-electric Rivian vans into its fleet. This move marks it as the first significant customer to purchase the commercial electric vehicles following the conclusion of Rivian’s exclusive agreement with Amazon.

The integration of these 70 electric vans comprises nearly one-quarter of HelloFresh’s entire fleet. This transition has reportedly led to a saving of approximately 20,000 gallons of gasoline and a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 200 tonnes, as stated in a blog post by the company on Wednesday.

Rivian, known for producing and marketing two sizes of vans, has been aiming to broaden its customer base since terminating its exclusive deal with Amazon in November 2023. However, the automaker only officially made its commercial van fleet available to other businesses in February 2025. Rivian used the interim period to prepare a commercial fleet line suitable for a wider range of businesses, which involved enhancing service infrastructure, digital infrastructure, and gathering feedback through pilot projects with fleet customers.

Although Rivian has been conducting several trials with potential fleet customers, HelloFresh is the first to publicly announce its purchase and integration of the vans into its operational fleet.

While Rivian is expanding its commercial client base, it continues to produce vans for Amazon. Production of these commercial vans began in 2021, following Amazon’s order of 100,000 vehicles as part of its initiative to decrease its environmental impact. Amazon’s deep investment in Rivian was highlighted by a lead investment of $700 million in the electric automaker just months before establishing the exclusivity agreement for the commercial vans.

As of February, Amazon had integrated 20,000 Rivian-produced commercial vans into its fleet.
