Safe Superintelligence, an artificial intelligence startup established by former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, is reportedly nearing a significant funding milestone, potentially securing over $1 billion at a valuation of $30 billion. This valuation exceeds figures reported just weeks prior.
According to a Bloomberg report, venture capital firm Greenoaks Capital Partners is spearheading the investment deal, committing to contribute half a billion dollars. If the terms of the investment remain consistent, this fundraising effort would bring the total amount raised by Safe Superintelligence to approximately $2 billion.
Sutskever is highly esteemed within both the AI and broader technology sectors, recognized for his contributions to groundbreaking AI advancements during his tenure at OpenAI, particularly those that facilitated the development of ChatGPT.
The founding team of Safe Superintelligence also includes former OpenAI researcher Daniel Levy and ex-Apple AI projects lead Daniel Gross. The company has received financial backing from Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, and DST Global. Currently, the startup is not generating revenue and does not plan to market AI products in the immediate future.
