The National Forensic Sciences University has signed an MoU with GMR, the operator of several Indian airports, to begin providing training in aviation forensics. This initiative comes in response to increasing concerns about the vulnerability of air traffic systems to cyber attacks. The university aims to focus on cybersecurity, communications, and operational technology to enhance security measures at airports.
Aviation forensics is an emerging field that addresses the growing threat posed by hackers to the aviation industry. The National Forensic Sciences University aims to tackle this challenge by sending students and experts to airports, training airport staff, and conducting joint research with GMR. The focus is on cybersecurity, communications, and operational technology, with an emphasis on securing automated systems such as conveyer belts for luggage, identifying weaknesses in radio frequency between air traffic controllers and aircraft, and analyzing the behavior patterns of incoming passengers.
The collaboration with GMR will also involve sponsoring doctoral research and implementing gait analysis software to pick up on incongruous behavior patterns from passengers. The ultimate goal is to enhance the security measures at airports, both online and physically, in order to protect against cyber attacks and other potential threats to air traffic systems.
