Kindle Colorsoft Users Report Yellow Bar Issue on Screen

Recipients of Amazon’s first color e-reader, the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, are expressing dissatisfaction due to a yellowish discoloration appearing at the bottom of the display. This feedback has been widely shared online, negatively impacting the e-reader’s rating on Amazon. It has been reported that customer service representatives have indicated that a solution is in progress.

The discoloration might potentially be resolved through a software update. A Reddit user shared a screenshot depicting a conversation with a customer service agent, who seemingly confirmed Amazon’s efforts to address the issue. Others reported that the problem surfaced following an initial software update, suggesting it might be linked to that particular update. Amazon has been contacted for further comments.

Currently, it is uncertain how extensive the issue is. On Amazon, the Kindle Colorsoft has a 2.6-star average rating, and reviews—both positive and negative—frequently mention the discoloration. While some users find the yellow bar negligible, others consider it significantly distracting.

In reviewing the device, Andrew Liszewski of The Verge noted that the discoloration is more noticeable in images than in person. He mentioned that he likely would not have identified the issue if not for the feedback from others. Images demonstrating the issue have been provided for further inspection.
