In a keynote speech at the Meta Connect conference, Mark Zuckerberg announced that Meta will be launching significant AI updates across all its applications and devices, including Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. These updates will integrate state-of-the-art AI into the apps used by billions of people. The new AI experiences will include an advanced conversational assistant available on various platforms, such as WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram, and will also be integrated into the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and Quest 3. Additionally, Meta has introduced 28 AI characters, some of which are played by cultural icons like Snoop Dogg, Tom Brady, Kendall Jenner, and Naomi Osaka.
Meta has also launched the AI Studio platform, which allows businesses to build AI chatbots for messaging services like Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. In the coming year, Meta plans to release a sandbox tool that will enable anyone to experiment with creating their own AI. Moreover, users will soon be able to edit and co-create images with friends on Instagram using new AI editing tools called restyle and backdrop. These tools use Llama 2 and Meta’s new image generation model called Emu, which can turn text prompts into stickers in just a few seconds. This feature will be rolled out to select English-language users in various Meta apps over the next month.
With the launch of their new glasses collection on October 17, users will be able to engage with Meta AI by simply saying “Hey Meta.” The glasses collection, starting at $299 USD, can be pre-ordered today. However, Zuckerberg emphasized that these product launches are still in the early stages and have limitations that need improvement based on user feedback.
