During Netflix’s Geeked Week event, the streaming service announced that Miya Cech, known for her roles in “Beef” and “American Girl: Corinne Tan,” has been cast as Toph Beifong. Toph is a blind earthbending prodigy whose skills make her a significant member of Team Avatar.
Executive producer Jabbar Raisani previously hinted that Toph’s introduction will bring new complexities to the dynamics of Team Avatar, similar to her role in the original animated series. As the Netflix adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” is scheduled to conclude with its third season, Toph’s inclusion as a central character appears timely. The original cartoon showcased Toph’s character through impressive action sequences, suggesting she will be a standout in the Netflix series upon its return.
