Pebblebee has introduced new Universal versions of its Bluetooth trackers, which are compatible with both Apple’s Find My and Google’s Find My Device networks. Priced at $34.99 each, these trackers are more expensive than Apple’s $29 AirTags but offer additional features such as rechargeable batteries and a light to facilitate locating them in the dark.
These Universal trackers can connect to either Apple’s or Google’s networks, making them a suitable option for households that use both iOS and Android devices. However, they cannot operate on both networks simultaneously. Pebblebee confirmed that once the trackers are set up with one network, switching to the other requires a factory reset.
Alternatively, users can use Pebblebee’s own app to locate the Universal trackers across all devices independently of Apple and Google’s networks. The company claims the trackers have a range of up to 500 feet, with reduced range indoors. The app also includes features such as geofencing, which sends notifications when a pet or child leaves a predefined area, and safe zones where notifications are disabled if a tracker is left behind.
The app can locate Pebblebee’s trackers beyond the 500-foot Bluetooth range, though this depends on detection by other devices with the Pebblebee app installed, making it less comprehensive than Google or Apple’s networks.
Pebblebee’s Universal trackers are available in three versions. The Clip features an integrated keyring, up to 12 hours of battery life, and charges via a USB-C cable. The Card, designed for wallets, offers up to 18 months of battery life. The Tag is the smallest and lightest tracker, with a battery life of up to eight months. Both the Card and Tag use proprietary magnetic chargers.
Purchasing the Universal trackers in bundles provides a discount. A two-pack is available for $64.99, while a four-pack is priced at $119.99.
