Sony’s gaming network experienced a significant outage on Monday night, impacting PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 users.
The official PlayStation Network (PSN) Service Status page confirms that the issues are affecting a wide range of services, including “Other, PS Vita, PS3, PS4, PS5, Web.” Essentially, all PlayStation services are currently non-functional. Users attempting to launch games are encountering errors such as “PS5 error Code WS-116522-7,” which indicates that “The system software update failed.”
As a result of the outage, players are unable to sign in, play multiplayer games, or access single-player games that require online connectivity and sign-in. The problem reportedly began at around 8:41 PM ET, and there is no estimated time available for when the issue might be resolved. At this stage, there is no information on the cause of the outage. Notably, this issue does not appear to be connected to a recent bug that had affected the home screen artwork for PS5 games, a problem that was addressed several hours prior.
For now, it appears that PlayStation Network gaming is unavailable for the evening.
