On Monday, Plex, a media software company and streaming app, launched a revamped version of its mobile application. The redesign introduces a new user experience with an updated navigation system, offering a dedicated position for the Watchlist and other enhancements to simplify access to advanced features for users of Plex’s personal media management software as well as its streaming service.
The company has indicated that an update for its app on TV platforms will be available soon.
Plex is widely recognized for its software that allows home media enthusiasts to organize collections of various media, including movies, TV shows, home videos, music, and photos. In recent years, the company has expanded its offerings to provide a comprehensive media solution that includes access to free streaming television and movies, movie rentals, and numerous discovery tools to help users navigate the fragmented streaming industry.
The redesign of the Plex mobile app emphasizes the addition of enhanced media features, such as title artwork for movies and shows, which has been highly requested. Other improvements have been made to movie and show detail pages, cast and crew profiles, and personal user profile pages.
Furthermore, Plex’s loyal user base of personal home media professionals can customize their experience by marking specific media libraries as favorites, which now have a dedicated tab in the app.
The universal Watchlist feature is another tool that facilitates content discovery. It allows users to save content they wish to watch from various streaming services or Plex’s free streaming offerings. This feature has been given a prominent position in the app’s main navigation menu due to its popularity.
The release includes some minor modifications, such as reorganizing features like the user menu, which allows users to update and manage information, including their friends list, streaming service selections, and watch history.
Following the rollout of the update for TV platforms, Plex plans to focus on further enhancements to achieve consistency between its TV and mobile apps.
