On Monday morning, the social networking and forum platform Reddit experienced significant service outages. The disruptions began around 11:20 a.m. ET, as noted by Downdetector, a website that aggregates user reports concerning service interruptions. At the height of the issue, over 90,000 users reported outages on the platform.
At 11:52 a.m. ET, Reddit confirmed on its tracking site, Reddit Status, that it was probing “elevated errors” affecting both its website and app. Shortly after, the company identified the problem, and by 12:10 p.m. ET, a solution was implemented with ongoing monitoring to ensure functionality. By 12:21 p.m. ET, Reddit Status reported that all systems were back to normal.
A spokesperson from Reddit stated, “We were briefly unable to connect to one of our databases, which caused the outage. A fix was quickly deployed, and we are now up and running.”
Incidents of “elevated errors” were also reported by Reddit three times in February and a few weeks prior, according to their status page.
