South Korea’s industry ministry has initiated the establishment of Global Industrial Technology Cooperation Centers at four prestigious U.S. universities, including Yale, Johns Hopkins, Purdue, and the Georgia Institute of Technology. The main objective behind this initiative is to enhance bilateral cooperation in cutting-edge industries by facilitating joint research and development projects. By collaborating with these centers, South Korea aims to acquire advanced technologies that can pave the way for new growth opportunities.
Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun highlighted the importance of solidarity and collaboration amongst like-minded countries in addressing global challenges. Through the technology cooperation centers, South Korea envisions a strong technology alliance with the United States, leading to significant industrial innovation. The announcement was made during the Korea-U.S. Advanced Industry and Technology Cooperation Forum, which coincided with Minister Ahn’s visit to Washington for meetings with U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and Japanese Industry Minister Ken Saito.
Looking ahead, the industry ministry plans to expand the network of cooperation centers to a total of 12 by 2027. This expansion reflects South Korea’s commitment to fostering technological advancements and strengthening partnerships with key players in the global innovation landscape. The establishment of these centers signifies a strategic move towards securing a competitive edge in cutting-edge industries and driving economic growth through collaborative research and development efforts.
