Tesla Cybertruck owners have begun receiving access to Full Self-Driving (FSD) software for their vehicles. The electric pickup truck, first launched in November 2023, has been without this driver-assistance feature until now. Reports from the Cybertruck Owners Club, as noted by Electrek, indicate that the software update is being installed on some vehicles.
Tesla previously announced that FSD would be available for the Cybertruck in September, following the release of the Autopark feature. With the recent update, it appears the company has met its deadline. The latest FSD version, 12.5.5, is being rolled out to Cybertrucks participating in the early access program. This update includes a vision-based attention monitoring system for drivers, even when they are wearing sunglasses.
The Tesla fan account Whole Mars Catalog shared over 20 minutes of footage testing the new FSD update on a Cybertruck. In the video, the system operated similarly to how it functions in other Tesla models. However, at one point around six minutes and 20 seconds, the driver had to intervene when the vehicle nearly drove into a median following an automatic left turn at an intersection.
FSD version 12 is designed with “end-to-end neural nets” that rely solely on AI and cameras, without additional sensors. Tesla plans to release a more advanced FSD version 13 for its vehicles in October.
