This Week’s Trailers: Squid Game, Presence, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

Amid the buzz surrounding the upcoming 2024 US Presidential election, some recent film and series trailers might have gone unnoticed. For those who missed them, here’s a summary of some noteworthy releases.

The highly anticipated second season of Squid Game is set to return soon. A new teaser suggests that Lee Jung-jae’s character, Gi-hun, may be gearing up for an uprising. The season promises a violent and dramatic return to the dystopian competition on December 26th.

Jude Law is set to make his Star Wars debut in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, which has been described as a swashbuckling pirate adventure. The series, compared to a mix of The Goonies and Star Trek: Prodigy, is scheduled to premiere on Disney Plus on December 3rd.

Steven Soderbergh’s horror film, Presence, has released a moody trailer that offers a glimpse into the terrifying experience of a suburban family, led by Lucy Liu. The film uniquely unfolds from the perspective of the ghost haunting them—a detail that enhances the eerie atmosphere. Presence is slated for a theatrical release on January 24th.

Luca Guadagnino’s film Queer, adapted from William Burroughs’ semi-autobiographical novel, features Daniel Craig as William Lee, an American expatriate in 1950s Mexico City who develops feelings for a younger man named Eugene, played by Drew Starkey. Queer has already been shown at the Venice Film Festival and has received praise for Daniel Craig’s performance and Guadagnino’s distinctive direction. The film is set to be released on November 27th.
