Meta has introduced a new capability for users to tag their location in their Threads posts. Users who have received this feature will notice a pin icon in the post composer, which can be tapped to add their location details.
This feature does not share an exact pin on a map. Instead, it allows users to provide an approximate idea of their location by indicating places such as a city name, neighborhood, or restaurant. Additionally, users who view a Threads post with a location tag can tap on the location to view other posts from the same area.
When utilizing this feature, users will see various options upon tapping the pin in the post composer. They can opt to tag themselves broadly, like in a city (e.g., Portland, OR), or choose from more specific locations. Those familiar with tagging locations on Instagram will find Threads’ approach similar.
Currently, the location-tagging feature is available only on the mobile app, with presence confirmed on iOS but not yet on the web. It is anticipated that this feature will be extended to desktop browsers in the near future.
