The initial encounter with Pura came through a recommendation from a friend whose home consistently emitted a scent reminiscent of a high-end boutique, regardless of circumstances such as cooking or water leaks. Inspired by this experience, an individual with two cats and a tween active in multiple sports decided to incorporate Pura into their own home environment. After approximately 14 months of using Pura products, some observations have been made.
The primary experiences were with the now-discontinued Pura 3, although the Pura 4 and the new large-room Pura Plus have also been tested. All versions feature dual bays for Pura’s proprietary oil cartridges. The Pura 3 and 4 models require a plug-in connection and must be operated via the associated app, Google Home, or Alexa, offering convenience in managing schedules, timers, fragrance switches, and night-light color changes. However, issues arose occasionally with app connectivity due to forgotten passwords or Wi-Fi connection problems, leading to frustration when attempting to make schedule adjustments. The Pura Plus model, however, offers manual control buttons on its cylindrical structure, which proved to be a beneficial feature.
The Pura 4 model is best suited for enclosed areas such as long entryways or bedrooms, while the Pura Plus performs more effectively in spaces with high ceilings or open floor plans. It’s noteworthy that the Pura Plus emits a noticeable 32-decibel whooshing sound, in contrast to the silent operation of the Pura 4. Both models require a 2.4-Ghz Wi-Fi connection.
Concerns were also noted regarding the inconsistency in quality among cartridge brands. Some issues included undetectable scents, detached or incorrect chip stickers used for fragrance identification in the app, and vial tops that were difficult to remove. The cost of cartridges, ranging from $11 to $17 for 0.33 ounces, suggests these issues should not occur. Nevertheless, Pura is recognized for its clean, high-quality oils that are safe for both pets and families, offering a broad selection of seasonal and year-round options from brands like Nest, Anthropologie, and Capri Blue. With only one undesirable experience out of a dozen trials, satisfaction with the product remains high.
Although Pura might not be the ideal choice for those who desire constant fragrance throughout the entire day due to cost considerations, it is suitable for those who appreciate unique luxury scents used occasionally or on-demand.
