Uber recently announced a new partnership with the Chinese self-driving firm, Momenta, expanding its network of autonomous vehicle collaborations. This development follows Uber’s addition of Ann Arbor-based May Mobility to its list of partners, which also includes Volkswagen, Waymo, Wayve, WeRide, and others.
The company plans to integrate Momenta’s robotaxis into its app, starting in Europe in early 2026, with safety operators onboard. Momenta’s CEO, Xudong Cao, stated that this partnership helps complete the essential ecosystem necessary for scaling autonomous driving globally.
These wide-ranging agreements, which also extend to trucking and delivery, come as Uber potentially faces competition from Tesla. Tesla is preparing to launch its first robotaxi service in Austin this summer, with CEO Elon Musk asserting that all Tesla vehicles could become fully autonomous through a software update and be utilized for ride-hailing.
Uber had previously operated its self-driving unit but sold the division to Aurora Innovation in 2020.
