US Government Files Lawsuit Against Elon Musk’s SpaceX

The US government has filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk’s SpaceX, accusing the company of discrimination in its hiring practices. Specifically, the lawsuit alleges that SpaceX discouraged asylees and refugees from applying for jobs and refused to hire or consider them. The alleged discrimination is said to have taken place between September 2018 and May 2022, based on the applicants’ citizenship status. The Justice Department announced the filing of the lawsuit, citing a violation of the Immigration and Nationality Act.

Elon Musk, known for his prominent roles in companies like Tesla and Neuralink, now faces legal action against one of his ventures, SpaceX. The US Justice Department is suing the company over allegations of discrimination in hiring practices. The lawsuit claims that SpaceX violated the law by discouraging asylees and refugees from applying for jobs and refusing to hire them. This action allegedly took place over a period of nearly four years, from September 2018 to May 2022. The Immigration and Nationality Act is cited as the basis for the lawsuit.

In addition to the discrimination allegations, the lawsuit also accuses SpaceX of wrongly claiming that federal export control laws restrict their hiring practices. The company allegedly used this claim to justify only hiring US citizens and lawful permanent residents. However, the lawsuit states that export control laws do not impose such hiring restrictions and that asylees and refugees have the same rights as US citizens and permanent residents under these laws. It remains to be seen how SpaceX will respond to these allegations and what the outcome of the lawsuit will be.
