PC sales improving, but not yet advisable to make a purchase – TechToday (Maximum 13 words)

The latest data from Canalys, the analyst firm that tracks PC market data, suggests that the decline in PC shipments in the US may be slowing down. Although PC shipments were still down 5.8% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2023, Canalys believes that the market could bounce back by the end of this year. The decline was primarily seen in desktops, while laptops fared better, with demand for Chromebooks in education institutions contributing to their sales. The commercial sector also helped to hold up the market, as more consumers deprioritized spending on new devices amid economic uncertainties. Among the top five vendors, Apple saw the greatest year-on-year growth at 32.6%, while Acer experienced a decrease in sales.

Globally, the trend of declining PC shipments is also showing signs of easing off, though the decrease is more significant at 11.5% compared to the US. This presents an emerging market that could be an opportunity for buyers to upgrade their PCs before demand returns, potentially leading to price increases. However, it is advised to hold off on purchasing for now, as Black Friday is approaching and there may be some attractive deals available. Last year, there were record-breaking discounts of over $700 on laptops during Black Friday.

In conclusion, while PC shipments in the US are still down, there are signs that the decline is slowing and the market could recover by the end of the year. Laptops, particularly Chromebooks in the education sector, have fared better compared to desktops. The commercial sector has also supported the market, with consumers deprioritizing new device purchases due to economic uncertainties. Apple saw significant year-on-year growth, while Acer experienced a decrease in sales. Globally, the decline in PC shipments is also showing signs of easing, presenting an opportunity for buyers to upgrade before demand returns. However, it is advisable to wait for Black Friday, as attractive deals may be available.
