Microsoft has announced the launch of a redesigned version of Copilot, positioning it as an AI assistant or companion. To mark this development, Microsoft’s AI CEO, Mustafa Suleyman, has issued a memo exceeding 700 words, which describes what he calls a “technological paradigm shift” towards AI models capable of understanding human visual and auditory input.
Suleyman, who joined Microsoft earlier this year as the CEO of its newly formed Microsoft AI division, arrived following Microsoft’s recruitment of several key staff members from Inflection AI. In June, Suleyman generated controversy by asserting that any content published online is “freeware” that can be copied, recreated, and reproduced by AI models. Presently, he expresses optimism that AI, under Microsoft’s guidance, will usher in a “calmer, more helpful and supportive era of technology, unlike anything seen before.”
