Google TV is expanding its free live TV lineup by adding 25 more channels to its already extensive list of over 800 channels. These additional channels can be accessed without the need for installing additional apps or signing in. The new arrivals offer a wide range of content, including TV shows like “Top Gear” and “Baywatch,” game shows, music channels, and multicultural entertainment. Google TV previously added popular news channels and shows like “Westworld,” “Law & Order: SVU,” and “The Walking Dead.” The expansion of free ad-supported television (FAST) channels has gained increased adoption as consumers cut back on spending on subscription streaming services and with rising prices.
Additionally, Google announced the integration of YouTube’s NFL Sunday Ticket deal into the Google TV service. Users will now be able to watch live out-of-market Sunday afternoon games, view top highlights, and receive recommendations for the week’s top games directly from the Google TV home screen. YouTube TV subscribers who have added on Sunday Ticket will also have the content displayed in their channel guide for easier access.
This move by Google TV aligns with the growing popularity of free ad-supported streaming services. A recent study revealed that one in three US users now stream content from these free services, with Amazon’s Freevee experiencing significant growth. Other popular platforms include Pluto TV, Tubi, The Roku Channel, and Crackle. Moreover, with rising subscription prices across various streaming platforms, free streaming has become a favored alternative for users.
